Unto The Seventh Generation

Dear Sanctuary NYC Friends,

In 2007, I spent several days with the SEED Graduate Institute at Ghost Ranch in Abique, New Mexico.

SEED was originally conceived as a place for Native wisdom Holders and Quantum physicists to gather and remember the common nature of their messages.

Physicist David Bohm was one of the idea people who brought forth the idea for the Institute.

I have attended two in depth sessions there, but at  the one in 2007, grandfather Leon Secatero, Elder and Wisdom Holder of the Navajo community, took a group of us into the woods late at night, where a fire was built, and he spoke to us. Leon has since joined the ancestors on the other side.

An exempt from his message follows;

“The journey we are beginning now is for the next 500 years. What will be the sacred path that people will walk over the next 500 years? Even in the midst of all the changes taking place and all the things falling apart, we are building that foundation now. That’s something important for us to remember and to focus on. If we don’t do it, no one else will.

“To move ahead into the next 500 years we must leave some things behind or they will contaminate or even eliminate the future. We cannot go forward if we keep destroying the earth. But we must also ask, what is good and healthy and helpful? Those good things can be part of our foundation, part of our pathway into the next 500 years…”

It was made clear to us that we had gathered specifically as a group, no mistakes about who was present, to usher in the preparation for the shift which was to happen on Dec. 21st, 2012. While i was deeply changed by my time with the elders, I honestly “forgot” that i had been called into this circle, until last week when preparations were nearing completion for five Mayan Elders from Guatemala to join us in NYC for one week to deliver the culmination of this same message. I suddenly “remembered” the whole thing. I also remembered that at the time it was clear that this was not a lightweight encounter, but a vibratory transmission which was calling me and the others there with me into the deep work of shape shifting toward a new world. There is work involved in peace making. There is a mantle to be taken on.

This morning I met in a room with the Guatemalan Elders , and with my fellow team members who have come together to bring them to NYC. I continue to be honored to be a part of this group, and as we spoke, I shared with the Elders my experience in New Mexico. As I shared this, I was looking into the same ancient eyes i had been looking into in New Mexico…the eyes of the ancestors. Five years is a blink of an eye in the eternal.

I am deeply honored to present you all with the experience of calling forth the next era of peace, of respect for mother earth, of the wisdom of collective  and harmonious planetary transformation. Please join us this Sunday, from 2-4 pm, for a service which will energetically set this all in motion, while also celebrating Sanctuary NYC’s beginning of a second year of life.

We invite you all to bring your financial offerings for our sustained future , to be offered at a special moment, as SEEDS of consciousness  planted by you to synergize as new and expanded life. Each of you who attend will be expected to take the energy of the LOVE vibration beyond this experience and into the world…for the next two months, for the next year, to birth the next 500 years.

Can’t wait to see you, to share this amazing moment with you , to sing with you and to birth a new tomorrow with you.

YOU are the gift.

We love to see your face,

Rev. Jane

My Religion Is Art

Dear Sanctuary NYC Friends,

Last Sunday Caraid O’Brien shared a beautiful piece from the end of James Joyce’s Ulysses with us as a part of our Sunday Experience.  Caraid is a truly wonderful actor, and this selectionis part of a longer, seven hour reading she does of the book, her sacred text, for WBAI Radio once each year on Bloomsday.  The excerpt she read is the confession of Molly Bloom, of the depth of her ability to love, and of her willingness to take a huge risk to stay alive, even as her heart both breaks and breaks open.

When we allow ourselves to travel deeper than the intellect and wider than the internal islands of self-definition have told us is our boundary, the Kingdom of God, of which Jesus speaks, is waiting for us. And on that journey, once embarked upon, we encounter both loneliness, and purpose.

Art is my religion. I know it to be an un-failing conduit to the realm of the Divine. I trust Art. And I am not so sure I trust theology.

The Wisdom Path is the mystic path, the realm of the artist, the poet, the dreamer. It is the place where we and God are one. Matthew Fox, the Episcopal priest, and former Dominican defrocked for his unapologetic unveiling of Creation Spirituality names the mystic journey to this place of Oneness as “One River Many Wells.”  It is this river we seek, when following the Wisdom Path, even as we access it through any number of wells.

  My well is ART.

It is not a religion of believing, but of knowing, of feeling and not cognition.

My religion is felt in performance, and experienced in the moment of a heartbreakingly beautiful combination of colors on a canvas, or in the dissonance of a Stravinsky symphony.

It is lived through nature, in the act of hope when planting a bulb in the soon to be winter earth, knowing, somehow, that the promise of its essence will emerge through the crusted ground when spring dares to appear again.

My religion is how and not what, and it is everywhere.

It is in the amazement John Lennon felt when he encountered legions of wheelchair bound people outside his dressing room door after a concert , coming for a healing that he had already delivered in song.

  Listen my friends.

The river is deeper and not wider, it is a whisper and a shout.

And it is as near as your heartbeat, and as vast as the ocean.

Have a wonderful week.

See you Sunday,

Rev Jane

“Expect It”!!!!

Dear Sanctuary NYC Friends,

“Love Brings Up All Things Unlike Itself.”
– A Course In Miracles.

I have learned the powerful lesson of this teaching over and over again, and I have finally come to “expect” a strong reaction to any and every real step forward into new territory. I used to be really thrown off by it. I used to avoid it by not making waves or really speaking my own truth.  However, when the Spirit calls us and we really say yes, our own resistance to the process of life must necessarily fall away in service of the greater good.
So what am I talking about? Nothing in particular and everything in particular.  I am talking about Authenticity and Courage, our topics of the month, and about what it takes to dance with them both. Because learning the dance is critical if you want to stay in the music of growth.
Years ago, when I was first in ministry training, I was blind sided time and time again by putting my “all” into some big event or project, having it be a big “success” and then experiencing a huge “negative” push back of some sort or other after the fact.  I put all of these perceptions in parentheses, because I am not sure that the way we define our success and feelings tells the true tale. Sometimes, the experiences that feel the worst in the moment, net the greatest gain.
Anyway I perceived the push back as negative, and I hated it. I hated reviews when I was an actor too! But the lesson is to not have your identity tied up in what other people project onto you. And THAT lesson is where the gift resides.
I thought push back meant I was doing something wrong!  But a classmate and wonderful friend of mine, Rev. Mark Whitlock said to me, as I bemoaned the situation one too many times, “EXPECT IT!” He said it with surprise in his voice, like he couldn’t believe I didn’t know it! Expect it??? OK. So that was something to ponder.
Over the years since that conversation, I have experienced a lot of surprises, and through it all, I have in fact come to, if not “expect it”, than at least recognize it when it happens. And I have also come to know that if you are NOT experiencing some push back in your life, you aren’t really making many waves in the quantum field.
To make a difference means to trust that YOU have something unique and deeply valuable to contribute to the world.  Authenticity and Courage. They really go together, and we have discovered that there is a third companion in this conversation, and that is Fear. To be authentic, one must be willing to dance with fear of rejection, fear of loss, fear of failure and the even bigger fear of SUCCESS! We ALL feel fear. The place where courage comes into the mix is when we feel fear, contact our higher angels, and make sure what we are being led to is really where we should be moving.  Then, we act in the face of that fear!
PhD programs are notorious for almost killing people who are trying to achieve the degree. I understand why. The stated goal of a PhD (Philosophy Doctorate) is to contribute ORIGINAL thought to the world. Original thought means an idea that someone else hasn’t put into words before. It means having the courage to investigate many sources, and to allow your own thought process to become disciplined enough to weigh the findings, and then to create your own contribution to the conversation.
Then follows the challenge of “defending” your idea! This is the place where people really fall apart and I understand that too! You may have a great new idea, but when people are deliberately trying to find the holes in your argument, and aren’t being very polite in the process, this is where courage really comes in.
It has been said that “courage is fear that has said its prayers.” I am not sure what you each are facing in your lives, but I do know that in order to really unlock the deepest potential inside of you, you will continue to come face to face with the very things you have hoped to avoid.   Loss of friends, loss of illusions (or dis-illusionment), times in the spiritual desert, are all part of the journey to really being able to say “Yes” to your highest calling.
And finally when you are willing to keep on moving through the inevitable self repudiation and the tempting of the inner naysayer who shouts “who do you think YOU ARE???”, IF you will let yourself just hang in, you will go on to the secret chamber of the most high, to that place in you where you and God are ONE.  You will find the path. You will find your way.
And when your original voice truly is able to emerge in the midst of that, you will be giving the world your greatest gift.
Keep on keeping on my friends.
As the old song says “The Lord will make a way somehow.”
And we will all be better because you have dared to midwife your true gift into being.

See you Sunday.
We love to see your face,

Rev. Jane

Lay Your Burdens Down- Be YOU!!

Dear Friends,
I had an Ah Ha moment this week. The details do not matter but the content does.  I love God.  I love the fact that somehow God saw fit to call me into a different level of life than I lived as an actress, and literally swapped out the old me and gave me a passion for the possible that re-fuels me every day.
Not to sound like Ross Perot, but I am horrified by the situation I see it in this country.  People are losing houses and hope and pensions and access to health care.  Occupancy in the homeless shelters in Manhattan where I live has gone up 15% just since last Fall.  Children are trying to start school without having a place to live after school.  And this is happening while the 1% is becoming richer.
I think it is great for everyone to discover God.  I am sure that God thinks it is great too, whatever God is exactly.  But I do NOT see the spiritual awakening as a last step, but rather as a FIRST step.
Once you reconnect to the Power and Presence and Animating Force that is God-in-me, AND God-who-creates me, not a guy in a beard, or a guy at all but the power of LIFE more abundant, that exists in the quantum field, that exists in the members of Congress and the House and in the meanest most horrible person you know as much as it exists in your best friend and inside EACH of us.  IF you are able to really access that power as your only internal guide, I KNOW that your life will be transformed.
I also know that you cannot keep it unless you give it away.  I am not a self-help guru.  I am not even a self-help teacher.  Self help tips without God, and without service, are to me, meaningless, narcissistic and ultimately specious.
I am an artist, a painter, a writer, a lover of God. I am an actress with a Doctorate in Religion and a relationship with the energy and life reveled anew to me each day through the Jesus path.
I love the wisdom teachings from all religious paths, and I honor them all.
And my path is the Jesus path.
I am a teacher and a lover and I love art and fashion and creative expression and I believe that all IS GOD.
I am not everything.
I am not anybody else.
I am these things.
And so, to the tired depressed  lady I sometimes see in the mirror, I say it’s all right honey.  Relax. Take a breath. Just let God use you, but make sure it is YOU.  And to all of you, I would say the same thing.
Let God use you.
We have an amazing next couple of months planned for Sanctuary NYC.  We are hosting a salon to talk about how new structures might come together to create meaning in the middle of the city.  We would love to hear from you at that event, about what you are needing, what your heart longs for, and why you want to gather together with others.
I want to hear from you.  I am going to host a Spirit Talk With the Rev this Sunday after the service to hear from you, and I am available to talk, to have coffee, whatever.
Please come to share and tell me who you are and what it is you long for.
That’s how I roll.
So grateful for each of you.
See you Sunday, when our new topics for the month will be: Authenticity and Courage.
Peace out,
Rev Jane
